In August 2000 Robbie and Sharilyn Grayson began Stone Table Tutorial, on five acres at 4150 Clovercroft Road, Franklin, Tennessee. Stone Table started as an aggressive and innovative form of Christian education that would address the surfacing cultural problems of the 21st century: the fog of a Post-modern world view, a waning Christian consensus amongst the young, a poor Christian scholarship at the elementary level, and an ignorance of a Christian physiological view of the individual. Below are a list of our developmental accomplishments.
- 2000-2001 We implemented the concept of the tutorial as an alternative to the exclusive home-school and the exclusive academic institution. Our program was contingent upon parental discipline.
- 2001-2002 We began to develop at the elementary level the concept of a Christian view of academics that made theology primary to each academic discipline.
- 2002-2003 We began to codify the Trinitarian Concept of Education: an educational system of thought in which all academic disciplines are unified according to the Triune character of God. Therefore, before being taught the variety of each subject, a child is taught the basic theology of what God has authoritatively said about Himself, the environment, and man. Then a child is taught the art of deriving the principles of each academic discipline from the revealed personality of God. We established the Principle series: lightweight books of similar size and format that carried the essentials of each academic discipline in this way.
- 2003-2004 We codified our Trinitarian Concept of Education and began the hard work of developing a school-franchise model that in principle could be nationally adapted to various locales. We began work on the development of a permanent Stone Table in Franklin, Tennessee.
- We seek to achieve academic results on the basis of discipleship which means that our teachers already are what parents want their children to become. In order to facilitate academic discipleship, we have a reasonable student-teacher ratio. We accept up to 15 full-time students in each class.
- We have intentionally designed the program for post-modern children. Though we reference parents in all that we do, we recognize that a cultural distinction exists between children and their parents. In other words, we are fitting your child to fight the battles that distinguish their own era and not eras of the past.
- We feature an academic life that includes part-time students. We provide a three-day-a-week program for part-time students classes, and they participate in all of our peripheral activities.
